Ernest Singer
I'm thinking of using one of the Southern Hemisphere scopes to image and process the comet. Any suggestion of which scope to use and what time of day. Looks like it sets about nine in the evening. Thanks, Ernie
ERNESTO GUIDO
Hi Ernest At present, the comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is very low on the horizon, and unfortunately, it is too low to be captured by our telescopes. We have a +30-degree limit due to the wall of the observatory, and right now, the comet is only a few degrees above the horizon during nautical twilight (when the Sun is at -12 degrees), as seen from our observatory in Australia where the AUS2 telescope is located. Please refer to the attached graph, where the red line represents the comet's height above the horizon for AUS2 telescope location. Unfortunately, the comet will not reach our +30-degree limit during its peak magnitude as seen from the AUS2 telescope location. The same applies for Chile. However, in Spain, the comet is expected to be above the +30-degree limit around the end of October, with a hopefully respectable magnitude of +4 to +5. Clear Skies, Ernesto
Ernest Singer
Thanks, very helpful! If you have any comet suggestions, even old data, please let me know. Would like to practice image processing on comets.
